Carmen LA
Low Rider
Some stories are meant to be told.
Like Carmen's, a Chicana woman from Los Angeles who owns her own body shop.
We spoke on the phone for months,
until we could bring her journey to life in a short film.
Los Angeles, 2024.
Carmen runs four businesses: she has a catering company, makes micheladas for events, owns a uniform company, and has a body shop. On top of that, she's a single mother of three. She repeats that she never wants to depend on a single paycheck again, because the memories from that time are cruel. Carmen's father was into cars since she was a kid. He's her hero. But she says that if she had had a mother who could comfort her, she would be less tough and more sweet: "the world made me this way".
